Friday: Run Forrest Run with Live Wire

Friday, Jan 8th, 2016

Run Forrest Run is your answer to all things 90s! With all the pop and R&B hits of today monopolizing the radio stations, it can sometimes be frustrating to just get back to “the good old days” of music. We’re not talking about last year, we’re talking about warping all the way back to playing Pokemon on your Game Boy, freaking out in the middle of the night when your Furby turned on all by itself while you were reading Goosebumps, and popping some Warheads while listening to your walkman before you head over to your friend’s house to trade pogs. We could only be talking about the 90’s, a generation that we all love. Run Forrest Run would like the 90’s to bring you as much joy as it has brought us and we strive to put that joy to work, giving you the best 90s tribute around Chicago.

Live Wire will be the opener for the night. Learn more about them here.

A Chicago-land favorite! Mr. Blotto was born in Chicago as an off-night vehicle for musicians who loved each others playing but were in different bands at the time.  cover entire albums by Led Zeppelin and the Who as well as perform entire shows of Country and Reggae. Artists as diverse as the Grateful Dead, the Flaming Lips, Willie Nelson and The Velvet Underground have seen their material interpreted by Mr. Blotto in the 2000+ shows the band has performed in the last 15 years, yet covers only pepper the bands hefty catalog of original material stemming from five studio albums and other unreleased crowd favorites.”Barlow Shanghai”, the 5th and newest CD sees the band in collaboration with John Perry Barlow (lyricist to the Grateful Dead). This CD was released in 2006 and is available from the Official website.

Friday: Avon Dale Band w/ River Valley Rangers

Friday, Jun 19th, 2015

Avon Dale is a band that draws its influences from rock, blues and soul. The band originated with an unlikely duo. Lead vocalist and electric guitar player Conrad Polz and vocalist/acoustic guitarist Matt McCarter met as members of the wrestling team their freshman year at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. Through their college years they balanced out the intensity of wrestling with jam sessions and nights spent writing songs on the roof of Polz’s college home on Avondale Avenue. Both Polz and McCarter are self taught guitarists and singers; they let the lyrics and the music flow around the theme or the aesthetic they are creating. “Both of us were new to song writing”, states McCarter, “we started writing music as a joke to entertain friends, but it slowly turned into a hobby, then a passion.”  River Valley Rangers are the evening’s opening band.

Saturday: Family Groove Company

Saturday, Jun 13th, 2015

Family Groove Company integrates the groove sensibility developed by funk/jazz crossover artists like Herbie Hancock and Medeski, Martin, and Wood, with thoughtful, tight songwriting that takes cues from the likes of Steely Dan and the Beatles. The result? An infectious, fresh sound the band calls “groove informed jazz/rock.” With a sound defined by rich analog keyboards, tight crunchy guitar, and a pocket-based rhythm section, FGC brings a fresh sound that bends genres and dares the listener not to dance.

Friday: The Clones w/ JEB

Friday, May 22nd, 2015

They jam, they rock, they rap, they’ve got soul, they’ve got groove, and they make the booties move. The Clones play a surprisingly eclectic mix of music that runs the gamut from The Beatles and Marvin Gaye to hip-hop to Linkin’ Park, Metallica, and the Zac Brown Band. They pride themselves on performing all music and vocal parts live with passion and raw emotion. Lead singer, Dave’s sweet spot is replicating the best Prince songs while his brother, Mike – multi-instrumentalist, is a perfect balance and brings a vocal edginess to the band. Chris rocks the toughest Van Halen solos and Brian brings the funk and energy rarely seen in a bass player. Drummer, Brian (B2), who brings a technical progressive-rock influence to the band, grounds the band. The Clones’ live show is an exciting ride through six decades of incredible music. JEB is the opening band for that night.
