Friday: Mike and Joe

Friday, Sep 23rd, 2016 at 09:00 PM

Mike and Joe is a really good modern rock cover band based out of Chicago. It’s kind of as simple as that. “Kind of,” except for the fact that the band is widely regarded by it’s peers as one of the very best sounding cover bands in the entire nation.

Mike and Joe mix, match, and perfect hand selected hits and timeless favorites. They bring down the house with today’s hottest hits while rocking favorite childhood jams from the 90s and 2000s. Mike and Joe are not just your normal cover band, they’re a true BAND that plays covers.

Wednesday: Stone Cupid w/ Julie Christensen

Wednesday, May 4th, 2016

Julie Christensen’s new band Stone Cupid, a kindred spirit to her post-punk powerhouse Divine Horsemen, was invited to be one of the final acts at East Nashville landmark The Family Wash, before its relocation, in February. The honor was eagerly accepted, since it was at the Wash that the band first played together less than a year before, and felt something truly special.

“This lineup fell together almost fatefully, and the songs seemed to play themselves,” says Christensen. “It was so natural, so simpatico, like some concurrent extra-spiritual thing.” Stone Cupid headed to the studio with producer Jeff Turmes in mid-March along with engineer Joe Costa (RCA Studio A/Ben Folds) to capture that vibe in an album that was mixed and mastered in late spring of 2015 and was released January 22, 2016.

Christensen, who’s authored five independent albums and sung with everyone from Leonard Cohen to Lou Reed, has surrounded herself with a team of team players. Guitarists Sergio Webb and Chris Tench flank Christensen at the front, and the “absence of ego” she lauds is on full display. As Tench creates the ideal sonic landscape, Webb populates it with one stunning surprise after another. Propelling the enterprise are drummer Steve Latanation and bassist Bones Hillman, who combine taste and telepathy into something so unified they seem a single entity.

The crew’s résumés feature stage or studio credits for a wide swath of top-shelf acts, including Midnight Oil, Sheryl Crow, Agent Orange, Americana stalwarts Matthew Ryan, Amelia White and David Olney, and country mavericks Gail Davies and Pinto Bennett. – See more at:

Friday: Hairbanger’s Ball

Friday, Aug 14th, 2015 at 08:00 PM

30 years ago, bands like Bon Jovi, Poison, Guns ‘N’ Roses and Motley Crue were selling millions of records and playing sold out concerts all over the world. Today, one tribute band has tapped into the nostalgic energy of the “Decade of Decadence” like no other. They call themselves Hairbanger’s Ball.

Hairbanger’s Ball was established out of Chicago in 2001.  What started off as a “What If” idea quickly turned this band into one of the most sought after “80’s Hair Rock Tribute Bands” in the United States.  Performing over 150 shows a year for 13 years says it all.  Their show is in high demand for club venues, private parties and corporate events.  This band has even been named “Best Rock Band” by the public in their home town of Chicago.

What can you expect when seeing Hairbanger’s Ball? A high energy show that does not skimp out on the music.  Being a 6 piece band, with both powerful male and female vocalists, nothing is left to be desired when listening to and watching this band put on a show. Hairbanger’s Ball appeals to a wide range of people.  They deliver a true representation of being at a rock concert in the 1980’s. Hairbanger’s Ball can bring back a memory of a rock concert someone saw in 1985 and also bring the youngsters the experience of a rock concert they were just too young to see.
